Default universal joint?

My dad drove my neon, because he wanted to see ifit would do what it has been doing randomly, yet only when I first start it, and pull out of like a parking spot...it seems like the back wheels are locking up and being dragged by the front ones...and the sound is like burning the tires. And he tells me he didn't have that happen, but he heard a sound that sounded like the universal joint going...what the heck is that, and how much is it going to dent my pocket?

first of all, neons do not have u joints in the drivetrain.

if your ebrake is not on and u do not use it, there is little chance that it is stuck on.

im guessing, because this happened to me, is that your rear brake pads broke loose from the metal portion and jammed up in the drum. this happened to me after backing up. what happened was i parked the car, it was damp that night and i figure the padsstuck to the drums overnight, because they were cheap pads and neons always have brake adjustment issues, and so on and so forth. anyway, the next weekend i took the drums off and replaced the pads and the hardware with higher quality materials and have not had an issue yet.
