Default Rad fans on-off constantly

Hi gang. I couldn't find anything via search.

I notice that as soon as I start the car the fans keep starting and stopping. You can hear the relay or whatever clicking on and off every couple of seconds. This is happening right away and not when the coolant heats up enough to need cooling. Any ideas on what the problem is?

This is just a guess, but your thermostat might be messed up. If so, they aren't too expensive. But I would wait to see what others have to say.

I'd have to say it's either a relay problem or a coolant temp sensor issue. Check for codes and go from there.

thanks CS.. I did a code check recently after replacing the battery and the only codes were 12 and 55 (battery disconnected, end of codes).. at Neons.org someone gave this answer:

"Do you have a/c?
The selecting the defrost mode (blowing on windshield) will cycle the a/c compressor to dehumidify incoming air.
The fans will cycle when the compressor is engaged."

I do usually have the setting "floor/windshield" blower in the morning now that it's getting colder..

Yup. Even with it on the floor and windshield your A/C compressor is on.

It sounds to me like you have left either the A/C or the defrost on, this will cause the car to keep cycling the fans on and off as well as keep kicking the clutch in and out on the A/C compressor.
