Default Backfire!

Today while i was driving I did a WOT shift from 1st to 2nd and heard a loud pop under neath the hood. Did it again, same thing. What could this be? My only mod is a Hot air intake. Sounded like a backfire but i dont know what could cause this. 2004 SXT 5-speed 5,200 miles. Fresh oil.

usually if it was a backfire, it indicates that you are running rich. Do you have any codes?

if it happens frequently, I wouldn't bother trying to analyze it, take it to the dealer, it is still under warranty, make them look at it.

Yea it's still under warranty. No I checked and there's no codes. How do you fix it if it's running rich? It's bothering me now. It's only when I hot rod it though. Thanx ahead of time.

When exactly does it do it? As you are slowing down maybe with your foot off the gas? Mines got like a rumble when I slow down now that I got a different exhaust. The stock muffler used to drown it out...but this one does not.

Like when I take it to the track and really get on it from 1st to second theres deffinately a pop under the hood. It shakes the car and gets un-nerving. I ran a 16.0 flat with just the intake and r/t muffler so I dont think it's hurting anything. Or not that i can tell. But I deffinately want to find out what it is.

Try reseting the PCM and see if it still does it after. Disconnect the neg battery terminal for a half hour or so.

When I first put on my intake I got some serious backfires during hard shifts especially downshift with quick snap of the throttle, but when I changed my exhaust (flowmaster 80 series welded on) all I get is the little backpressure gurgle that you get from all flowmasters
