Default Cat Converter Questio

I think the CAT on my 95 Neon is shot. After long periods of driving the car has trouble accelerating when on the highway. I find that this often happens when I start approaching 70 MPH. I already replaced the fuel filter as part of a general tuneup and I think the CAT is causing this. What’s odd is that it passed a sniffer test. I would think that a clogged cat would prevent it from passing. <FONT color=#ff0000>What would a replacement CAT cost? Is there any cheap aftermarket ones? A stock CAT costs like $280 on my Camaro.</P></FONT>

A clogged/plugged cat will only cause the car to lose power and sometimes die out, it can still pass an E check. Next time your on the freeway at night and there is little to no traffic and you notice this power loss pull over and look at your cat. If it is glowing red, then you need a new cat. You can get a free flowing high performance cat at Jegs for $70-$120 and you will still blow good and legal. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

There are two way and three way catalytic converters, the three way has the fitting for an air line. I am uncertain which is on the Neon. If there is no line/hose attached to it then it is a two way, most any will do. You can get a factory style high flow cat from Catco or Dynomax in the low to mid $100 range. The Neons have a 2.25 in. exhaust.

Here is the Dynomax cat for your Neon $116: http://www.howellautomotive.com/Howe...atalog/catalog /product_info.php?cPath=21_113_29&products_id=264

And heres the Catco cat $80: http://www.modernperformance.com/all...h_flow_catalyt ic_covert.shtml

This is the Magnaflow for $60-$85: http://www.modernperformance.com/all..._high_flow_cat alytic_covert.shtml<edited><editID>71ROADRUNNER</editID><editDate>38002.0317708333</editDate></edited>
