Default manual transmissions

how long do they last? i was wondering if should replace mine along with the clutch..what are the pros and cons of doing so? is it necessary in the first place, also what makes them go bad in the first place? thnx..

they last till they break. in non racing situations it should last 150-200k miles or more.

manual transmissions generally last forever. 200-300-400k
you can service them by changing the fluid (which is good), but most people don't do it.
there is no need to replace or repair a transmission unless its not shifting, or popping out of gear, or making a lot of noise, or has some other specific problem.

they go bad due to abuse, excessive grinding of the gears, extra high horsepower, water in the oil, lack of oil due to leak or other problem, or sometimes just a weak, defective, or statistically unlucky part that fails early. occasionally someone ends up with a part that wasn't heat treated properly, or was out of spec and slipped through the inspection process.

i don't know ANYTHING about neons, but CV joints, CV rubber boots, and other wheel bearings, suspension, and steering parts wear out like any other.

i have a 95 dodge neon with over 250km and sometimes i drive it hard sometimes i drive it soft but honestly i go from 1 2 3 4 as quick as possable and i know it spins a little in 1st and 2nd the odd time and ive yet to have any trouble other then a bearing is shot in the tranny that ill fix once i get the car off the road and the money for a new clutch and pressure plate (racing) due to my hardness on racing(drag strip) not illegal lol

so is it recommended to change mtx trans fluid about every 100k? i am just about there, ive heard it doesnt matter.

It is insurance. I change mine about five times a year. My car is not stock, but the trans is. That being said, the trans is seeing more wear than normal, so the fluid is changed more than normal.
