Default Clutch problem?

I have a 1996 Neon with a 2000 Neon engine. The car runs OK, although I am told that when it gets hot it cuts out sometime, haven't experienced this personally. Is this a common problem with a common fix for Neons??

Also the clutch is weird on these cars, this one is right on the floor, if you let it up even an inch you start to take off. It works OK but tough to get used to. I am wondering if this means something was put together wrong, maybe the 1996 transmission mated to a 2000 engine is an issue, or maybe the clutch is worn out (I don't see anything in the manual about it being adjustable).

I am not sure it is worth fixing up if I have to put several hundred dollars into a clutch and it may cut out in the heat of summer?

Ideas sure would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Al

The clutch cable is stretched or the automatic adjuster(it's just a spring near the firewall) is rusted/corroded so it's not adjusting. Take some dry lube and soak the spring, then (or before) deisengage the cable from the clutch fork. After using dry lube pull the cable so the spring stretches. Do that a few times and re-assemble. If that doesn't help after driving somejust replace the clutch cable with a new one(or a low mileage used one..but I would personally just go with new). Do not get an autozone one; it is the wrong type, get one from a dealer.
The cutting out issue could be a lot of things. Def' need more details on what it's doing.

i got a new clutch cable from autozone, it wasnt correct but i made it work.. anyway, it sounds like your cable needs replacing. get one from the dealer. it should be about $80.
