What's the rpm at 70 mph for a 2001 Neon?
mike, 01's have a 3 speed and 05's have a 4 speed. the 3 speed will be about 500 rpm's higher.
the reason yours seems to shift 3 times is because it has a lock up torque converter and it seems like its shifting gears, but its not really shifting, its the torque converter locking up in 3rd. when this car was made they were more concerned with harnessing all available power then they were with economy and that was how they did it. as time went by and economy was a bigger concern, they came up with a 4 speed that fit into the space of the 3 speed and they learned how to control heat dissipation as well.
