Default Is the Neon a good first car?

Hey all, this looks like a cool forum.
Anyway, I need to get a first car and I was looking at the Neons ranging from 95-98. I was wondering, do the Neons have any annoying issues? Like maybe they have bad trannys or maybe they run very low compression after a while?
I'd just like to know before I get one.
Thanks

My friend got a Neon for his first car and never complained about it. I've never heard anything bad about it either.

The only bad thing about the Neons that you are looking at, 95-98, are the head gaskets. These years of the Neons have many problems with the head gasket blowing out. It is mainly due to people hot rodding them, if they are driven with care then they are just fine. One person that I know of floored it everytime he drove it and after about 6 months to a year the head gasket blew out and he drove it with the blown head gasket for about a year after that before it died. The head gasket problem was fixed in '99 and the replacement head gaskets for the earlier years are good and they're easy to change.

Other than that they are a great reliable car, at least mine has been so far and if it ever fails to be then say hello SRT-4.[sm=smiley4.gif]
