hi i have a 2005 dodge neon sxt with 65k miles and some times when i start the car a really loud squealing will occur for about 15 seconds or so then it fades away. i was just wondering if anyone could help me with thisproblem as to what it is and how i can fix it so its not so embarrassing when i start my car.

 

check your belts

 

Buy some belt lubricant from your local parts store. Tell them your issue, then ask them about a dressing/lubricant. The loud noise you're hearing are the belts slipping on the pulleys.

 

On cold days it is normal for your belts to occasionally squeal on start up for 1 or 2 seconds, mine does it and the belts are fine.
