Default Need some help

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon. My car lately has been idling roughly at a stop lights, around 600-700 rpms and has been doing it for about a week. Someone suggested I put in a new air filter and wait a couple days to see if it fixed it. Well two days ago, my car idle'd so rough that it violently shook the steering wheel at about 500 rpm's and died on me. I was able to start it back up right off that bat, and it hasn't died since but it is still idling at about 600-700 rpms...when i start the car it max's at 1200 and i heard thats normal. The only other thing i can think of that is wrong with it that might actually contribute to the problem is when I am accelerating the car, it accelerates slower than normal and shakes bit but if i give more gas it usually works itself out.

Could this be the Throttle Body? A rep at auto zone told me that it could also be the passage that connects my air filter to my engine...plz help

also..i just recieved this car probably half a year ago from a relative who didn't keep up with car maintenance and I'm pretty sure had been driving on a dirty air filter for quite some time
