well i got a new head and put it on and it still doesnt have any compression and i took the plug out on cylinder 4 when i was doin the compression test and it backfired and thats it so now i dont know what is going on with it

i changed the head and bolt n all that but im still not getting any compression in the first 3 the plugs are covered in gas on cylinder 4 the plug isnt it has 60 and when i was cranking it over to test the compression on cylinder 4 it backfired but thats it. any clue what thats all about?

Did you replace the rings? If you replaced the head with a good one (was it checked or was it a JY pull that you just put on)?

If the head you put on is good, then you must replace the rings.

ok i replaced the head got it in time i have 150psi compression in each cylinder but it still wont start it just backfires so i dont know what is goin on with it now.

Still sounds like your timing may not be right. BTW, 150psi is considered the minimum service level of compression for a working engine.

i got a book but i still cant figure out the top 2 cams i have a mark on each side of each cam i dont know what 2 to line up it acts liek it wants to start but it just wont and it back fires.

ok i believe i got a 2.4 head when i bought mine now what do i got to do to get it to work because i keep seeing in places about halfting to turn the magnet 180 degrees? if someone can help me out so i can get this thing back on the road again.

do you still need info on how to set the mechanical timing?
how does a cylinder backfire when the plug is removed? this is not a diesel they dont fire on compression alone they need a spark, and you say the plug was out.
perhaps it wasnt #4 that backfired.

usually u get a backfire when the plug sparks while intake valves are still open, sounds like mechanically this engines cams are not in time with the crank.

i am having it put in time but i think the head i bought is for a 2.4 so how can i make it work on my 2.0?
