I have an 05 Neon SXT with 87k miles, and recently it's started making a whining noise that is rpm dependent. It sounds almost like a supercharger. It starts when accelerating while making a turn and then slowly goes away over time. It's gotten much louder now that it's cold out and has started whining right when I start the engine. My best guess is it's the power steering pump, what do you guys think?

 

loose belt. check the alternator belt.

 

Im having the same issue, whining noise near the PS, but i replaced it. I whines with acceleration, when put in N the noise gets lower, i put it back in D as it kicks back into D the noise gets louder as it RPMs increase. It has a noise when idle. Any thoughts.

 

Belt tensioner pulley?
