The other day when leaving my apartment building, I guess I hit the front bumper of my car off the road when exiting the parking lot and this piece of plastic came off and started dragging on the ground. It seems to have fully broken off, except that it was dangling from the attached wires for the fog lights (with the plastic screw clips).

My car does have a slightly cracked bumper from when it was being towed after the rad cracked and the transmission crapped out, so I'm not shocked that something was a little damaged/loose underneath. This is all on top of constantly getting stuck in the snow all winter long. Further to all this, the car was in a crash with a drunk driver a few years ago, and most of the front end was replaced.


Where I'm going with all this: Is this a part I should be worried about having replaced or fixed? Clearly they don't make parts just for the fun of it. It looks like it's some sort of shield or guard to keep things from going up behind the front bumper. Should I worry about this?

 

Those things get torn off of many cars. My current '03 didn't have one when I bought it and it still doesn't. Your call, IMO, if you want to fix it or not.
