Default Underdrive pulley?

Im lookin to get alittle extra pep, not so much major power outta my ACR, so I was cruisin around the Modern Performance website and was checkin out the underdrive pullies they had for sale. My question is, should I go with the MPx brand that is exclusive to Modern Performance, or should I go with the Unorthodox? I mean the MPx is like $100 cheaper, but should I trust it then? Unorthodox has alot of money to blow on R&D for their products, so Im not really sure which I should go with... Also, I know my way around the basics of engine care and repair, but how difficult is it to swap out the Underdrive pulley? should I look to do it myself in a couple hrs on a weekend or should I just say screw it and take it in?

Oh here are links to the 2 pullies.

Both have been used with great success for years. Both provide the same results. Both are easy enough to install/remove with the proper tools. The UR pulley can be made into a "convertible", where you have the option of just the alt belt or the alt and acc belts by just replacing the outer ring(s), not having to remove the whole asembly (at least for the 1st gens). Other than that, you're paying for a brand name...

On 2nd gens, there is a tendency to throw a code (misfire?) with any pulley because there isn't enough damping (2nd gen stock pulley is not solid steel like the first gen, IIRC). Don't know if there's been a workaround for that yet...

Best of luck!

So it would throw a code, but would that effect how it ran or the dependability of the engine? Would it be something Id need to worry about???

The pulley is just a harmonic damper, not a balancer, which would be keyed to the shaft. The topic has come up several times, no one has experienced increased bearing or seal wear from using a UDP. This engine has over 80k miles since the last teardown/rebuild, all with the pulley on there. I'll be rebuilding this winter (upgrading internals), so if I keep this engine instead of getting a spare to build, I'll take some wear mesurements and post them up on the .org.

The Unorthodox Racing Under Drive Pulley is the best type of U.D.P. to answer your question.
The first mod that was installed on my car was my underdrive pulley. I have an AFX underdrive pulley that's from Howell and it's like the Unorthodox Racing Underdrive pulley from Modern P.
The most noticeable difference was the amount of power my car has with the AC on.
