Low MPG
hey guys ! I bought a 2004 r/t neon 5 speed and drove from maryland to north carolina and noticed that im getting maximum like 24mpg or less on the highway going 65mph to 70 mph is very ridiculous! i have change the spark plugs, the wires, coils, fuel filter ,air filter, put new injectors.timing belts and check compression and nothing.!! any suggestions??
I put Bosch Platinum+4 Plugs with new original wires, and regularly check the tire pressure and set it on 35 psi. But i don't put 91 Octane i put 89 Octane. And even though the brakes are working fine im going to check them anyways just to be sure.
also expecting to do 26 to 28 mpg on the highway, cause im doing right now like 21 to 24mpg on the highway ,my girlfriend's toyota rav4 v6 2008 does a bit better mpg that my neon does right now.

Horrible plugs. Platinums don't go in waste spark ignition systems either, whether they are a single or +4. Put in basic copper plugs properly gapped (factory Champion or NGK Coppers); that'll probably help more than MPG alone. If you don't run 91, the computer will cut back timing and you'll lose engine performance and MPG to prevent engine damage due to the lower than "required" octane. The opposite holds true as well; if you run 91 in the base 2.0L, you can actually lose performance and MPG. Wouldn't hurt to bump tire PSI up to 38-40PSI if you are wanting a bit more MPG instead of overall..."performance?"
Change the plugs and run a couple of tanks of 91 and see where you get IMO. These cars do seem to like a bit higher RPMs as well. I get better mileage going 65-70MPH than 55MPH.
