Air conditioning causes stuttering
Maybe someone here will know the cause of this:
I have a 2002 neon r/t. Whenever I'm driving, especially on the highway, When I turn the A/C on, my car starts to stutter once every few seconds. It also seems to do it on defrost. If I put it on vent or floor with no A/C, the car rides nice and smooth.
Does anyone have an idea what may be happening here? Is there an issue with my A/C?
Any help would be appreciated. If you need more info, I'll try to explain more.

It shouldn't really stutter...but you should expect to feel a loss in power. When you feel it turn on, its the just A/C compressor kicking on, it takes a bunch of power to run that, thus the bit of loss in power. When you have the defrost it is actually running the A/C compressor so thats why it does it then too. Sounds pretty normal to me.
I would understand if it did it only once when I switch to AC or defrost. However, it does it every 5 or so seconds constantly when the AC or defrost is on. To give an example, I put on the cruise control and the AC is on, and every 5 seconds the car stutters for a quick moment. To continually do that, I don't think that would be normal. Hope that clarifies,

LOWSLOW has got it again. He knows his stuff. It happens to me to and thats the reason. Your AC runs no matter what with the defrost on. not sure why, but if you look on neons.org they have a fix it for the problem. Ive seen it just havent got my lazy *** to fix it yet.
