Default 1996 neon 2001 neon engines

Hi all. Last weekend dureing a storm at the lake, a tree fell on my 96 neon effectively totaling the car. I am looking around to find a replacement and found a 2001 neon with a blown engine.

My neon has the 2 liter sohc engine, and I see on wikpedia, the 2001 used basicaly the same engine.Wondering if my engine would drop right in or not?

I do however also see that at least post 2001 engines were a lil different.

any help or info greatly apreciated.

All 2.0L engines are the same, but at certain years they switched sensors and how they are read by the computer and how they output signals. You might ask in the 1gn section and search around as well. I'm sure the answer is in there somewhere.

You can use the 01 engine, just retain all your sensors as the 96 was year specific. You would just use the block and head. You would reuse your manifolds, wiring harness, PCM and so on.
