buddy of mine just bought a 2000 neon at auction,automatic transmission, runs awesome, but theres an issue with the tranny. it drives down the road fine, shifts great, but when you apply the brake to slow down, it does not downshift on its own, acts like its going to kill the motor, kinda like a manual trans would if you didnt apply the clutch. i changed the fluid and filter in it, was no metal shavings in the pan, and the fluid was still fairly red in color, with a slight burnt smell. any idea what could be making this happen, cuz it has me stumped other than thinking it could be torque converter possibly

 

did a bit more research on the matter found another very likely candidate, transmission control solenoid....this sound likely? it fits all the symptoms
