dodge neon sxt 2003!!

i have an dodge neon sxt 2003 and my check engine light keeps coming on when i start the car i hear the val or the lifter i was wondering if that could be the problem?! need help please thanks in advance

You should get the codes pulled from the computer. That will help narrow the problem down.
