Automatic Transmission TCM or PCS or Speed Sensor
Hello Dodge Forum Users!
Over the last year i have noticed a particular symptom becoming worse. It usually happens once the car has been parked/cold for a few hours. I start the car (sometimes it has a high rev but that's a separate issue for another day) and it fires right up. When I shift from PARK to any gear (normally drive or reverse since it's used most) it can be hard to even move it to the desired gear and when it does move and engage it may cause a sudden jerking/bucking. There isn't any strange noises, just a harsh engagement into gear and the bucking. Once it is in gear it is fine, no hard shift into 2nd or 3rd gears while driving. Once the car has been running for a while the problem usually goes away.
Could this simply be the Pressure control Solenoid, Speed sensors (in&out), or the costly Control Module. The least likely candidate to me is the Control Module. I'm considering just replacing the other three since they are inexpensive. I did change the Fluid and filter in November. I'm curious to know what experts think, since I am by no means a mechanic. If anyone has part numbers that'd be helpful.

Is it hard to select a gear when the car isnt running? Like just the key on but not started? Im asking becasuse if it is, it could be related to the shift linkage. That would be the least expensive and maybe free to repair. Just inspect/lube/fix anything you find. take apart the selector and clean it out.
When you say sudden jerking or bucking, do you mean liek if you were to neutral drop the car? Meaning you have a higher rpm than idle and then shift it from neutral to drive and cause it to lunge foward (bad for trannys) but young kids did it back in the day to abuse a car and spin some tires. usually on a rental car so ive heard.
i doubt its a speed sensor. but i just changed mine like 3 weeks ago. they were $25 each from the dealer and took 15 mins to change.

I never have tried to switch gears while the engine was off and on accessory. I will try that tomorrow morning. My guess was the linkage needed to be lubricated/fixed and wouldn't be all that time consuming or expensive.
I have been a car when someone nuetral drops, i would never do that to my car and destroy the transmission, lol. Yes, it does sort of act like that. I'll be idling for a moment at a complete stop. Then I will switch to Reverse or Drive and once it engages it jerks/bucks suddenly as though you switched gears suddenly. RPMS don't spike or anything. I'm guessing PCS over Speed sensor and TCM. TCM would hesitate changing gears while driving if I'm not mistaken. But as i mentioned, I'm not mechanic, just someone not afraid to learn and get dirty.
