strange starting problem on an '04
My wife's 2004 Dodge Neon wouldn't start this morning. Turn the key, all lights and gauges work, but engine won't turn over, and hear a rapid clicking sound. I tap the starter and try again, same thing but this time the clicking noise is coming from the other side by the battery and fuse box. Replaced the starter relay, did not fix it. Checked for any codes and there were none. Jump started it and it fires first time, dtive it around no problem. Turn it off and start it again, it fires. But if it sits more than a half hour or so, it doesn't turn over and the clicking resumes. Is this just the starter or something else?
I would make sure all battery connections are clean and tight. Since it did turn with a jump I would check if the battery is holding a charge. I would also check alternator with voltmeter when engine is running. You should be getting around 14.4 volts.
