Default Charging Problem on 2004 Neon SXT

Hi Forum!

Been reading here a while trying to solve a charging issue on my 04 Neon SXT. The expertise here is really impressive so here I am throwing my issue against the wall and hoping something will stick.

Here's the issue: The battery started failing this past Sept. I'd charge it overnight and the end of the next day it'd be dead again. So, I replaced the battery. The issue was not resolved.

I visited the local parts store and was told that it was probably the alternator. So, I replaced it. The issue was not resolved. I went back to parts store and they said the alternator was defective so I swapped it out for another. Still no resolution. Two more times I went back and they replaced the alternator each time. Finally, they said it had to be something else and suggested I check out the PCM.

This I did and I got another one. Still no resolution. On this site and others I read about possible issues with the voltage regulator in the PCM as well as possible issues with the alternator fusible link. I installed an external VR and replaced the link and, yes, you guessed it, still no resolution.

Testing today, whether the vehicle is running or not the battery voltage is at 11.75 volts. There is continuity between the alternator through to the battery, resistance in the fusible link checks out at about .9 ohms.

But, despite everything that has been done, the battery is still not charging.

Allow me to apologize for the length of this post. I'm at my wits end and don't have a clue where to go from here. I'd prefer to fix this myself instead of going to a mechanic. Any help or advice is more than appreciated!!

Thanks!

Everett
