Default '04 Neon, daughter hit snowpile

OK, so my daughter calls and says she hit a snowpack and now the Neon won't shift. She limped into a local shopping center parking lot. I get there and at -7 degrees, he underside of the car looks like a cherry snow cone. I just bought the car a week ago and don't know much about Neons other than it was in my price range. I see some type of cooler behind the oil pan, but don't see it in the cheap Haynes manual I just bought. Not sure where I should start as I'm new to Neons. The car barely shifts into drive after much hesitation, so I'm wondering if the tranny is shot? Any wisdom on repair strategy would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Is it low on trans fluid? If yes don't try to drive it anymore.
You need to thaw it out and find the leak. You may get lucky and it not require a trans.

Yeah, Dave. Low on tranny fluid. We had no choice and had to tow it home via tow strap with tranny in neutral. Hopefully we didn't do further damage.

Also, the check engine light came on and I wonder if I'll have a ton of codes to clear out. I'm getting the impression there's a special process for that. Any thoughts?

Thanks, man!

A code reader is fairly cheap these days, around 30 bucks to display code. IMO it beats goofing around with the key and counting flashes (if that's how that model works).
Checkout the info in the "stickys" here....................
