2002 Neon SXT manual jerking, lunging, and missing...
Hey everyone,
I've been looking around the net the past few hours and thought i'd try to find out if anyone else has been having the problem i've been having. This forum looked like a good place to get some answers and suggestions. Anyway, my neon, a 2002 sxt manual 2.0L SOHC has been missing and sputtering as of late. The idle is rather rough, the acceleration is hesitant, and when I open the throttle all the way in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears, it misses extremely bad. I've already cleaned the foam filter in the air cleaner box that goes to the breather, but it still misses and is very hesitant. anyone have any ideas as to what this is and why it may be doing this?
thanks... dustin.

Take it to a place like Auto Zone (parts store) and ask them to run codes on it...it's a free service that only takes a few minutes. On some models you can do it via the ignition key, but I personally like the code reader better. There are several places on the internet where you can look up what the codes mean or call your (hopefully) friendly Dodge dealer...[sm=smiley5.gif]
Actually, my dad's best friend is the head mechanic at our ex dodge dealer ( a ford dealership took their franchise). And he said he would bring the computer home and run codes on it for me, but i was just wondering if anyone else experienced this problem and why it may be doing that, and if so, what I as a half way experienced person could do? I'm only 18 but i have pretty decent knowledge, but this one baffles me. I've tried everything I know.
Take it to the dealership, being an '02 it should be under warranty, let them worry about it and get a free rental in the mean time.[sm=smiley20.gif]
Sounds like you have sparking problems, maybe distributor or spark plugs. But RoadRunner is right, just take to dealer and let them deal with it. [sm=smiley20.gif]
i would, but i dont think it's under warranty any longer... engine is under 3/36,000 i believe, and it has 47k on it. If anybody knows any differently, please tell me.
That is correct I believe. 3yr/36,000mi basic limited warranty coverage and 7yr/70,000 powertrain warranty. I would probably still take it to them anyways unless i knew specifically what the problem was. Does the check engine light come on? Is it throwing any codes?
