Need serious input
I have a 04 neon with 80,000 miles, it ran great then suddenly it began lurching forward, check engine light illuminated, then the lurching forward ceased and it began to jerk upon acceleration, and seemed to lose power, poor gas mileage are what I immediately noticed. First time I took her to get code read the check engine light went out and it seemed to be running ok but I can hear from the engine that somethings off. Had a appt w mechanic but didn't mention it at that time. Shortly after I left the mechanics shop the jerking and sputtering began and check engine light illuminated. Went to auto zone code said Camshaft position sensor wiring harness. Went back to mechanic and he replaced the camshaft position sensor bought from auto zone, Shortly after I left the jerking and sputtering when accelerating began and the check engine light was back on. Went to auto zone the code read camshaft position sensor. Went back to mechanic and he is clueless, basically telling me its life is over. It will run ok for about 10 minutes before the jerking starts. It is progressing to hard buck. I have only been driving it when I must and only short distances. I need the car for work so needless to say I have not been working and in covid days I need to work! Can any one help me get to the root of the issue?
Thank You! So here it goes I have been told that the camshaft position sensor should be Mopar that will fix the issue. I was also told the magnet behind camshft sensor should be replaced or the replacement camshft sensoris bad. Also I have been told the entire engine needs rewired, or the timing belt needs replaced, and it was also suggested the ocm oem sensor be replaced, or that the crankshaft sensor be replaced or that the crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor are out of sync or something along those lines. The car is 17 yrs old w 80,000 babied miles, and the issue its having is a mystery throw money everywhere, its worth is just about zilch fixed or not. No one wants to work on the pia, seems to me no one including dodge can pin point the resolution after 17 yrs of its existence. I am not a wrench obviously all the factors that play into the cause and resolution are beyond me. Thank You I appreciate your in put.
