Default 98 SOHC Intake Upgrade help

So I just a Short Ram Intake, with K/N filter. So it gets here and its missing the Tube that connects the intake to MAF Sensor. So I emailed them and they should be sending it. Is it necessary? And this one dude says the SRI sucks.

the short ram intake isn't an improvement over the stock location. The temperature of the air is still the same, though it allows for a larger volume of air to be drawn in than through the stock intake. A full CAI draws air from outside the engine compartment, therefore is much cooler than stock. On top of that, cooler air contains more oxygen than hotter air does.
an SRI is still an improvement over stock, but a CAI would have been a better choice.

I'm placing the SRI where my battery goes, so it will suck cold air in. Doing some mods to make it work better.
