Don't know what to do.
I've ran through a lot of choices, and opinions on this. i have a srt-4 DESIGN... so as you could guess, i get a lot of crap about that. i've had a similar post about this. i want to be able to outrun an srt-4 stocked... i'm looking for the sleeper i guess. i don't like turbos, i guess i'm stubborn about them, the reason i didn't get an srt-4, i wanted to get it supercharged, and show them what's up haha. i was told by some friends...i guess i have crappy friends, but one said you can actually drop a v6 in it..i looked that up, and it looks horrible if u do it, and it take out the handling. someone said, redo everything, the tranny, the rods, the whole nine yards, run a supercharger, with a small spray of nos...but i THINK that would really tear up the car. so i'm open to your suggestions. what should i do? if u can, give me brands of whatnot's to get. P.S. getting another car isn't possible lol
You could always go the route of buying a 2.4L out of a PT Cruser, Avenger, SRT-4(just take off the turbo), Stratus. Then just build your motor and add bolt ons. Its do able, but turbo makes it much easier, too bad you dont like it. [sm=smiley20.gif]
Why supercharge? You get less loss from turbocharging. Supercharger on a FWD is just stupid, in my opinion. Wow, instant power off the line, cool... so all the weight gets removed from the drive wheels instantly, so instant loss of traction. Brilliant.
If you want the same power as the stock SRT-4, you're going to need a turbo since no one is making a s/c kit for the Neon. A friend of mine up in Mass (Kevin, 2003 Neon SXT) has the stock turbo system from an SRT-4 on his plain ol' 2.0L SOHC (Magnum head), with a few other additions of course, making 219.8 WHP, 244.6 WTQ... That's on the stock bottom end, folks.
You could always go nitrous, but your stock bottom end isn't going to like a 100-125 HP shot, unless you're good tuning with a progressive controller.
Best of luck!

Hahn and Chill Factory both have intercooled bolt-on kits that will put you in the 225ish HP range on the stock engine. I know www.modernperformance.com carries them, and www.howellautomotive.com may carry them as well. That is probably the easiest route by far. No need to touch the internals, upgrade the cam, or any of that stuff... If you've got a 2" exhaust (pretty sure you do), that would be worth upgrading...
Then there's the option of getting the exhaust manifold/turbo from an SRT-4, along with the intercooler and all the piping, getting an adapter for your head to the SRT-4 manifold, working out your own fuel/spark control, getting past the MAP, etc. Probably cheaper, but only if you seriously know what you're doing, or you'll be doing a lot of things over... Kevin is using the Magnum head for a lot more flow, 2 head gaskets plus a 1mm spacer for reduced compression, stock SRT-4 injectors plus a cold start injector, 1:1 fpr, permanently installed wideband O2, and a manual boost controller. If you just slap an SRT-4 setup on your engine and shoot for the same power he's getting, you're gonna break something...
If you decide to put in forged pistons and rods, the sky's the limit. Most forged internal boosted Neons are making over 350 HP. Several have topped 500, and Len's 1st gen was making 600ish last I heard.
