Default Exhaust and intakes

If I add both an exhaust and an intake to my wife's 05 neon, will it run lean or anything like that? I know for sure I'm going to put an exhaust on it, but I'm only going to do the intake if it will give me better MPG's... I'm not looking for power here just MPG, and I'm on a strict budget.

And, I checked Borla's site and they don't list that dual neon exhaust for 05, only up to 04, anyone know why? That means my only option is the magnaflow dual exhaust. Any thoughts?

Neither is going to make your car run lean. The Neon, like all OBD-2 vehicles, uses a closed loop system with the O2 sensors as feedback to determine fuel trim during most driving scenarios. You'll have a little better airflow, so if anything, you may run a little richer at idle and WOT, but the NGC computer seems to do a pretty good job of correcting that. It won't be enough to notice either way.

The exhaust setup on the '05 is the same as the '04 well, all of the non-magnum 2000-up neons for that matter). If you're on a budget, why Borla? Just about any aftermarket muffler on there is going to be an improvement over the stock unit.

A good CAI (AEM) will free up a few HP and may help a little with gas mileage. But again, it's not going to be anything drastic. 1 or 2 mpg on the freeway maybe.

Those 17's are probably killing gas mileage more than you'll make up with better breathing...

Best of luck!

I never really noticed any gas mileage help when i installed my CAI, but then again I put 16 rims on almost right after that...they're only .793 MPH off though when it says im going 65
