Default 2005 Overheating!

I have a 2005 Neon SXT, which has about 786 miles on it. I constantly keep it in GREAT condition but I was traveling over the weekend and my car suddenly started to overheat. I hear the constant Ding, Ding, Ding and I noticed the needle nearing the dangerzone on the temp. I stopped, pulled into a parking lot and waited for nearly half an hour and replaced some of the orange colored radiator fluid that leaked out. I got a half mile furter, and the engine over heat again, this time the needle reached all the way to the H rather quickly, where it couldn't go any further. Being 100 miles from home i have loaner car from the dealer I was lucky to be at when this happened. I noticed the fan didn't turn on the first couple of times the car was turned on after the initial overheating. It did however turn on the last time, before leaving at the dealer to look at Monday. It did not overheat then either.

Question: Since I have under 800 miles on it, what could cause this to happen. Computer problem?? Would the dealer be able to tell me if there was any problem, if it fixed itself???

Should definitely be under warranty. If the fans are not turning on, it could be a problem with the fans, the fan relay, the PCM, or the coolant temp sensor. If the problem has gone away, their scantool might not show anything, unless some sort of code was stored in the PCM (for the coolant temp sensor).

Best of luck!

Problem hopefully solved. Apparently there was a broken hose clamp. That, along with a thermostat and a couple of other things replaced.

Thanks Again!

Good to hear. I would be mad if it was brand new even though it is under warranty.

I just bought a '05 a week ago.. I had it at 197 miles and it overheated. Turned out it was a broken hose clamp from the lower radiator. He told me that it had been redesigned and I just had to leave it at the dealer overnight. Covered by warrenty.
