Cylinder #1 misfire code PO301
My daughters 96 neon acted up on her. SOHC 2 liter engine. The check engine light came on and started flashing. It threw the PO301 code. I asked her when she had the plugs and wires changed last and she didn't remember so I changed them (preventative medicine) even if they were not required. The code still comes up. What causes a misfire in the #1 Cylinder? I put in some injector cleaner in the gas and ran it for awhile. Any help would be appreciated.

Misfires are caused by Fuel, Spark, Compression, or timing.
Fuel - Dirty fuel injectors a possiblity.
Spark - Plugs, WIres, Coil
Compression - No compression, poor bang.
Timing - Cam/Crank sensors.
Is it a dead miss or sporatic event?

Thanks for the reply,
It appears to be sporatic. It didn't do it for awhile then it threw the code. We did some work, cleared the code and it worked ok for awhile then it did it again.

Try some good fuel inector cleaner such as Redline Oils SL-1 or Chevrons Techron. See if that helps. The SL-1 is my favorite as I have seen it do wonderful things.
