motor swap 97 to ??
I was just wondering what year of motor can i go up to with my 97 neon. THere's a 04 motor 2.0 and there is and there is a 05 motor it a 2.0 and they have the wiering and computer with the motors.[sm=popcorn.gif]
Neither the '04 or '05 will work. Dodge changed the crank signal starting with the '03 model year, and the 1st gen PCM will not read it. No, you can't just yank a 2nd gen PCM out and stick it in your 1st gen either...
If you have a SOHC, than any '96-'02 SOHC's (including the Magnum) will swap in fine. The '95 SOHC will swap in with very little effort (sensor changes mostly, and the PCV setup). Then there's all the '95-'99 DOHC's if you want, with a few more parts (intake and exhaust manifolds, etc.), and the 2.4L engines out of the Caravan, Stratus, PT Cruiser, etc. for a more fun project (preferably coupled to a turbo).
If you have a DOHC, then your easiest bet would be a '95-'99 DOHC. You could swap in the same SOHC's as above, but I can't think why youd want to... And the 2.4L will swap in as well (mild project, not a drop-in).
Best of luck!
