Problem with 96 Neon, need help
I have a problem with my 96 Neon which 3 mechanics cannot figure out the problem.
I start the car in the morning, (starts up fine, idles fine) when I put it in gear, it sputters and almost stalls out. After this, I let it warm up for another 45 sec. and then it works fine.
In addition, on longer drives, on very warm days suddenly while on the highway, you notice a loss of power while pressing down on the excellerator. This continues until it gets to as point where the car will idle, however any pressure on the gas will stall the car out.
Check Engine light code was Multiple Misfires.. (and nothing else) so I had the plugs wires and filters done, then I had the coil and TPS checked out (even drove around with the TPS unplugged) and it still did it.... no overheating of the engine either.
No one here has a clue... any help would be appreciated

a coil can go bad, but the can still run somtimes, try using a newer coil
my friend has an eclipse, it would hesitate really bad when accelerating, it had 3 codes showing on his computer, he took it to a mechanic and had it fixed, it still hesitated really bad, just the other day we changed the sparkplugs and wires, the plugs looked like they had been in there since the car was built, after we changed those the car ran great
I would also check the crank position sensor, those do go bad, I would suggest getting that from napa, dodge will charge you $80 for the sensor and $20 for the wire harness you need, napa charges $23 for both

How's the fuel pressure? A failing pump or clogged filter can produce some similar symptoms. Replacing the fuel filter is not a maintenance item on the '96, but could still need it if you got some bad fuel.
