transmission swap!!
QUESTION friend of mine owns an eclipse and well he wnats to trade me transmissions... its the same 420A engine of course but the trany for a neon with ur engine built up can with stand up to like 220 mph its a very strong trany if u didnt know but he hasa turbo and it will bea performance jump for him and a performance jump for me also (so he states) because my gears are longer and thats wat he needs and i dont need it.....BUT im gonna be sprayin so should i stick, with my gears, would it be better of would it be better to switch and wat kind of problems would there be if any!!!! THANKS ALOT
The only bad part of the Neon manual transmission is the extremely weak clutch. If you add a few modifications the clutch cannot hold it and it will slip. The only other downfall to the Neons' clutch is that most of them are modular(one peice), so if you need a new clutch it's very expensive because your paying for the clutch, pressure plate and the flywheel.
Stick with your tranny just upgrade your clutch set up NOPI.com has good prices on clutch kits. Also if you plan to use nitrous a stock 420A motor can handle up to 70 psi any more than that and you could cause serious damage to your motor. if you have an auto howellautomotive.com makes a tranny upgrade for $127.
I have a 2004 stratus sxt 4 door automatic and I'm wondering if i can swap a engine from a sxt coupe with a 5 speed manual. It's the same engine. . . . . . so can I do it, and did anyone do it?

I would say they will swap, but I would guess you would also need to swap the ECU, as well as clutch pedal and associated hardware, linkage, etc etc. Check to make sure the CV shafts are also the same length between ATX/MTX cars...
You may want to post your question again in the stratus section, you may get a bit more knowledge there.
