ok when i shift into reverse it acts like its in reverse and feels like it but will kick out of reverse sometimes when i try to back up ive also had it kick out of reverse while im in the middle of backing up.... any ideas y? i have an '00 neon

I think the reverse gears aren't synchronized on an MTX so reverse on all vehicles is rather interesting.

sumtimes i have to pull real hard to get mine into reverse......

maybe you need new shifter bushings????

 

Good point, when I installed boogers (from no bushings) I never had "lock in" problems with reverse again, though now the forward gears...all of a sudden I can feel their age. :/

You could always try replacing em with like rubber "legs" from the hardware stores, the thingys that attach to like furniture and stuff.
