2.0L's famous cold idle knock!!

But this is not an issue on the Neon since it's filter is on the bottom and faces open end up, the oil sits in the filter and cannot drain out. This feature is useful on an engine where the oil filter is upside down with the open end facing down or with one that attaches horizontally with the filter on it's side basically.

You're right about the oil staying in the Neon filter, but believe you can still lose the oil from the galleries above the filter due to the pressure head if the anti drain-back valve fails to hold.
Bsd,
Thanks so much for the info, I had no idea that most of the Mopar filters were actually Fram products....
Well, I gues it's back to delco for me!!!!
Thanks for the info

As far as aftermarket oil filters go, I would have to say, that acdelco blows the competition out of the water, and there cheap!

My friend works for dodge, now i'm not sure that this is correct or not but he said the the lower end on the motors are made with a little extra play and that is what the noise is, and it is also why the bottom ends are so strong on the motors. Now that does make some sense but i'm not sure.
It does kinda make a little bit of sense at least about the part of being extra play. Because that is what is causing the noise. As for that being the reason for why the bottom is so strong.... I wouldn't think so but maybe.
I have a 2004 SXT with just over 7000 miles and I am getting that same knock -- it worries me that some damage is being done to the engine during this period. Any have any idea if there are any long term side effects and if there is any effective solution? I am about due for an oil change --- which I will be performing. I don't have a place where I nearby where I can purchase delco parts -- any good alternatives?

Don't worry about that noise its harmless almost all neons do it and most have done since they were new and there is a lot of them out there with well over 100k on them and they are fine.
