Default engine question

hey, guys.
thanks for the help. you know, for my tranny problem.
i just bought the chilton manual for my neon, and i can't wait to change
the fluid and the filter tomorrow.
anyway, changing the subject, i'm curious about how many miles are on your neons.
mine has 94,700 miles, and it's still running strong and smooth. i'd like to know
your opinions of how long the engine's suppose to last with a good care.
thanks.

Default RE: engine question

I've got about 140k on mine and its a 1999. I've driven it a lot. Cross country and all that.

An engine will last forever IF it's properly taken care of.

Also, on a side note, I'd get an FSM eventually, from the dealer. The Chilton's is a good reference but is by no means the definitive manual. I wouldn't relie on it too much some of the info in it isn't that great.

what's FSM? if you meant the original manual, i already have it. it's just that
i've never changed the transmission fluid before, and i wanted to try it with
some guidance.
and wow, i must say. i'm impressed. and i thought mine was
pretty high mileage for a '99.
anyway, i give you two thumbs up.

FSM = Full Service Manual....

It's a book from Dodge and or Chrysler specifically written for your year Neon. It's the same book that the service department at the dealer uses to work on cars. It costs about $100 and is well over 1k pages. It's expensive but will pay for itself over time.

is it dohc or sohc? i know dohc has more horse power,
but do you think it lasts longer? or vise versa?
well, what do you think?
my opinion is that sohc lasts longer(no offense to the dohc ppl).
because since it has more horsepower(duel cam), it uses engine more.

They are both comparable. Neither is better than the other. Each has their pros and cons and are capable of a lot. It's more of a personal preference. DOHC you sepnd much less money building up but a SOHC is much more easily adapted to a turbo.

It's all a matter of what you are looking to do what you want and how much youa re willing to spend.

Now, I prefer the SOHC over the DOHC because it's got in my opinion a lot more possibility than the DOHC, but again, my personal preference.

I've got a 95 SOHC Neon. Only 81,000 miles on. Runs great and never had any engine problems with it. I only use Mobile 1 Synthetic. I used to hate Neons but I guess the peeps I knew didn't know anything about cars or how to maintain them so theres broke down. I changed my mind about Neons. Great Cars.

yea the kids thatn went to my school make neons seem like really gay cars which is why i hated them for so long... my uncle who has a neon convinced me to get one wiht a littel help from my dad, it was in my price range and gets very good gas milege like i wanted for driving to college, mine has 116,000mi. and it runs like brand new.
