Default Cause(s) of rear suspension sway?

We're getting that worn independent rear-end sway over railroad crossings and similar bumps on our '96 Highland Coupe[sm=rolleyes.gif]. I know at least one of the rear struts is bad (leaking). There's no rear stabilizer bar. Bushings are original, but do not show any obvious signs of tearing or looseness. Miles read 68K, but suspect it may be closer to 90K due to past intermittent gauge problems.

The main question is can one or more bad struts alone cause that behavior or are there other things to rule out?

Thanks in advance!

I would have to say yes, one bad strut can cause the rear end to sway.
