Rear end swap

Rear end swap
New here, first time poster. Please forgive my ignorance because I really know almost nothing about this issue and I’m looking for some guidance. I have a 2010 Nitro with less than 100,000 miles that started making a whining noise in the rear end today and the rear diff is leaking. Dodge dealership wants an ungodly amount to change or rebuild the rear end, but we’ve found one at a salvage yard for a decent price. My husband is an oil and gas guy who works out of town 8 days at a stretch and can’t do the work himself even if he was here. I have a friend who is pretty good turning wrenches and I was wondering if anyone could provide any insight as to how difficult a job it is to swap out the whole rear end with the one from the junkyard?
