I was checking it out this evening and I don't think the receiver has enough drop to it to make it ride level.
I haven't used one of these for quite awhile, but I remember jacking up the truck and trailer and hooking it up and when I let it back down it was level and didn't sway at all on a 28 ft. Layton trailer. I just pulled my 24 ft. car hauler to Vegas and without one and I won't do it again. Don't be so hard on us, some of us are thinking about your safety. JMHO

That's all I was doing. That, and i was curious as to why he was thinking about not using it. I thought that maybeI could learn something new.

Bought my truck to tow a 24ft TT. The dodge is 5.5 inches higher than the Nissan I was using. A new shank will cost about $100.

If you don’t have a brake controller http://rvwholesalers.com/ has the best price I’ve seen for the Prodigy. They also sell a custom cable. It makes for a 10-minute install.

Wow, you guys get testy quick. I never said I wouldn't use it, I just said I didn't think I needed to.

I was checking it out this evening and I don't think the receiver has enough drop to it to make it ride level. The receiver has adjustments, but they are bottomed out and it seems to be about 2" to high. I read an article about axle flipping as an option. I guess I will check to see about a longer/lower receiver and go from there.I do appreciate all of the advice.
DR, I would not call it "testy" LOL. Even though most of us have never met in person, we all seem to share a common interest in our trucks and in how we use them. Most of us would really feel bad, if someone had a bad result from something that one of us could have helped prevent, especially something related to safety.

As to the receiver being 2" high, hook up the trailer, then jack the trailer and truck up using the manual or power jack at the hitch. (don't try to get it too high as you don't want to burn out the power jack). Hook up the leveling bars, let the jack down and check the level. If it is within 1/2 Inch of level, connect the friction control and "go for it". Just remember that the trailer axle that on the low end will carry more of the weight than the other one, and could create wear problems. That is one reason I use tires with very high load ratings on my trailers; one Travel Traler, one Race Car Trailer, and three Equipment & Tank Trailers at my work. That way if the trailers are not quite level I don't overload the tire or axle ratings.

I don't recommend filpping the axle unless you are going off road with it. The higher the trailer's center of gravity, the worse the handling in a cross wind, when a truck or buss passes, on a curve, or when stopping. The higher the trailer, the worse the fuel milage. Same goes for the truck, the lift kits will reduce milage, but if you are going off road you will need the ground clearance. If a lift kit is put on for "looks" then just remember you are paying a milage penalty for the "look", and at $3.00 a gallon that can add up.

Best regards and welcome to the forum.

Ralph

Once again, thanks for all of the replies as they are very imformative.

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum Ralph78, but as it turns out I should be welcoming you the forum. I joined about a month before you did

I checked outa longer drop and it is freaking expensive at $139.00. I am going to continue my search.

As for the brake controller I already had one and I used the OEM connector which made it a 10 min job. Most of which was spent soldering the wires together.

I will check the level tonight with the anti-sway hitch and see if I need to drop another Benjamin to make things go.

Oh, I almost forgot; as for getting run off, there isn't a chance in h*ll. I'll just put the testy ones on "ignore"
