Ever have a tranny cooling line let go?
Today I am driving thru town. I come to a red light. Light turns green, I press the pedal, the truck starts to move. THEN I get a huge RPM surge. Instantly I know something is not right. I look in the mirror, and the trail of tranny fluid is a foot wide. I'm thinking to myself, "JC, this tranny is less than 9 months old and has less than 8 thousand miles on it.
Make no mistake guys, I hammer on my tranny all the time. Pedal to the floor at stop lights, WOT up hill in OD, etc. Lockup will snap your head back. I also spent a few dollars short of $6000.00 for the rebuild + tc. Long story short, I have the truck towed to my transmission shop. The owner calls me about 2 hours after the tow truck drops of my baby. He says "it's all done, where can we drop it off?"
I said "it's done already?
He tells me that the cooling line from the tranny to the heat exchanger had blown. AND, when they rebuilt my tranny, they had ordered a new one, but forgot to install it. Honest mistake, no big deal. They had the part there still. They installed the new steel line, changed the filter, added all the fluid, and dropped it back off to me at my apt...LOL. He even paid the towing bill because they forgot the line.
WHAT A GOOD DAY!!!!!!!!
And, get this.......my Transgo kit TFOD-HD2 has a replacement valve in the valve body that lets fluid circulate in PARK. As soon as I felt the slip, I had pulled over, but waited till the EGT dropped to turn the truck off. I left 2 gallons under the truck......lol.
So my baby is back on the road, and my tranny is rock solid still.
And just FYI.....Dodge had revamped this cooling line from mostly rubber to mostly steel I guess. Also there are new fittings for it. I don't know ifthere was a TSB or not. There wasn't a recall either.
Ok, just wanted to share my story. Ride safe guys, catch you all later.
Good luck with ALL our rides.

RE: Ever have a tranny cooling line let go?
Oh man DD I am glad that it all worked out good for you... When I read the title I was thinking OH NO!! I have a neighbor with a 94 CTD that blew the line, he had to flip the bill for a new tranny. He was not to mad though as it was the first problem he has ever had with his Dodge.

Oh .... I thought he was reccomending going with straight steel lines with maybe the ends being rubber. Are steel braided lines available or do you hafta make em yourself?
