Another Transmission question??
The service manual say that when the 30,000 mile transmission servce is done the bands should be adjusted. What exactly does adjusting the bands do with respect to the transmission? What is going to happen if I dont adjust the bands?
thats a very good question.
not sure if its been posted on before.
bands not adjusted =
sloppy shifting
hesitation on take off
loss of towing ability
$2000 min repair bill for the trans [:@]
**** poor fuel milage
a feeling that youre beyond redneck!
beggin for money to by on old clunker ford till you can raise enough $$ to fix the DODGE!!!!
bands adjusted =
drives smooth!
feellike racin!
chicks dig it!
dont get stuck tryin to roll over a speed bump with first gear slippin out.
less $$ out of pocket in repairs!
got it???
if you have the 46RH trans (4 spd auto) there is the "LOW" and "REVERSE" adjusters in the case by the lower pan (change the filter also). then theres an external "BAND"* adjustment by the shift lever mechanisim that a trans shop should do.
a guy did my adjustments inside the trans, never did the out side adjuster. now I have to pay a trans shop to do it!!!

Is it really neccesary at 30,000? my truck is abou to hit 30,000. I have a 2000 mile trip and no time for a service before I go. think I will be alright? I am not going to be towing, hauling maybe 700 lbs
My fluid looked okay when I dropped the pan so I would say you will be okay. For me, I am trying to follow the service guidelines for ONCE in my life since I am planning on keeping this truck forever.......
I have a 2001 Suburban that has 80,000 miles I have not changed anything on it and it is running fine.....

as long as youre with in a couple grand of the "recommended" service milage.
if the fluids changed regularly, then you should be fine. my 93 with the 338+k on it has had the fluid changed before i got it. dont know how long ago, but the trans is a bit rough from lack of maint.
