Default Whats that hole?

I just bought a used 2004 CTD and on the black air box i noticed theres electrical tape covering a hole. looks like a grommet hole or something. is there supposed to be a restriction indicator there or something? ill get a pic soon. does any1 have a pic of their engine under the hood (2003-2005)? that could post it here so i can see. thanks

It sounds like the air filter gauge (that's my terminology for it.) Once you get a pic, someone will be able to tell you for sure though. I am putting together some pics from my TST install. I will get a pic of the airbox for you to compare.

Not sure where you can get one, all I know is they don't seem to work worth a crap. When I bought my truck, I opened the air filter and it was absolutely filthy. The gauge still showed that it was just fine.

I'm pretty sure it's just vacuum that it mesures.

Another way to determine if yer air filter is due for cleaning/replacing is, if ya pulled the silincer ring out and younow notice you can't hear the turbo "sing" you might be too late!. Co-worker found that out the hard way ...collasped his "BHAF"...[:@]

Yep. thats for the filter minder, a semi one will work provided the ports or the same size (I beleive they are). The silencer ring is a stamped piece of sheet metal in the inlet of the turbo that quiets it down. It just held in with a snap ring, removal of the ring has no performance gains, just make the turbo "sing"
