Default SOS! I Need Help Bad!

I have removed the right rear axle on my 2500 and I am trying to get the hub off so I can replace the seal. A 2 3/4" socket is too big and a 2 1/2" is too small. What do I need to get this thing off???? The morons at Autozone and Advance don't have a clue and neither do I. I desperately need to get this fixed becuase the water pump went out in my other truck while I was driving around trying to find out what I needed to get the hub nut off.

sounds like a trip to Sears for a 2 5/8" socket is in order... it could also be a metric size. I've found alot of metric bolts on my 2000 ram, it appeared to me that they were mixed when they built the truck. also do you have the manual?

Sears only goes up to 2 1/4 inch. The autoparts stores had 2 1/2 inch and 2 3/4 thin walled sockets, but nothing in between. My buddy drove over an hour with a big set of sockets from his dads transmission shop and it turns out that it is 2 9/16". The hole in the hub is only 3 1/4 so it takes a thing walled socket to go in there.

Anyway we are now fixed and back up and running.
