Default Help an 'Ol Newby Out!

Hey Guys, just got my first Dodge, 1st Diesel, 1st Duallie. Don't kill me, but always been a Blue Oval 1/2 ton guy. Think this truck'll make me a convert though. Got a couple of questions that hope ya'll can help with.

1. How much tire pressure are you DRW guys running for the best ride; when not towing of course.
2. Are most of you using Rotella; seems like it.
3. It appears that many guys in another forum are not running oiled air filters of any kind because it will void our warranty. Any validity to this?
4. I'm not into the speed thing like I used to be, but I plan to pull a 11K 5'er once a month (100-1500 miles RT); what's a good chip/module/programmer to give me the best fuel mileage and a little extra UMPH! (Don't wanna start changing turbos, trans, etc.)

5. Oh yeah, WTF!! with the 07 headlights on bright?! Dim is as good as my '05 Lariat, but the brights suck! All scattered with no focus. Is it maybe an aiming problem?

Thanks a lot for any of your thoughts. Lynn[/align]

Welcome tot he Forum and the world of dodge. I do not have a 3500, I have the 2500 and have bfg at k/o's I run 50 psi but someone is sure to chime in and give that info. a lot of people run the rotella oil here and a lot are avid amsoil users, I am goign to start using amsoil myself after my next oil change when I can stock pyle some oil (do it myself). the k&n filters do not void your warantee, Are you planning on a cold air intake or a drop in filter? if a drop in a lot of peopel are talking highly of the amsoil filters. Personally I am not sure what I am goign to get. $$$ plays a big part in it. chip/module people really like the edge juice with attitude, I know sharx uses it and he has one bad *** ram, he has all the speed and power you need plus it has all the gauges and safety alarm's/features. I think it even has a turbo timer. I recomend reading your manual, also letting your turbo cool for a minute to 5 depending on driving, check manual or search posts here. And finally before Mayfair gets back and tells you[sm=ttiwwp.gif] get some pics up please. If you are going to be towing or just for a good safety measure, I would recomend the magnatec pans for trans and diff covers for added insurance.

Thanks Jimmy. I got the truck home about 8pm one night, then came to work in the Gulf of Mexico the next morning. Got a little over a week left to go, but will post pics ASAP.

I run 80 PSI rear tire pressure when towing, then drop down to 65 when running empty.(Actually I'm never empty as I have a full 65 Gal. Transfer/Flo Fuel tank/toolbox in the bed, and a 230 CFM Nitrogen bottle mounted in the bed above the right rear wheels, so there is about 900 lbs. in the bed at all times.)

Proper air pressure is more important than soft ride. You don't want to blow a tire due to overheating from running low tire pressure.

This I realize Ralph. Guess I should have been more to the point with my question. How low can we run the tire pressure without running the risk of damaging the tire? When you're use to an SUV (DW's) and 1/2 ton PU, you run full pressure as stated on the door sticker, but in the 3500, I thought I had heard that you could back off on the pressure when running empty; I just didn't know how much.

Thanks again for the responses.
