I know it's only June, but I am now the proud owner of a 2007 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel. I live in upstate NY and it can get very cold here in the winter. My question is, is there an engine block heater on these new diesels? I can't find the plug anywhere. I know the 1995 GMC Diesel pickup I had, came right from the factory with a block heater.

 

they all have a block heater . Dodge stopped putting the pig tail on to cut cost . You can buy the pig tail from the Dealer.

 

you can also get one on ebay I know on my 07 6.7 it was a $10 option but mine had it because it was a big horn

 

So we need to buy the whole "pigtail" and plug it into the heater that is already mounted into the block. That is cheap! And, can anyone tell us where they plug in at? Mine is '06 Megacab 2500 4X4. Thanks

 

You can also buy the plug and wire from Cummins or one of their dealers cheaper than you can get it from Dodge ($12 vs $35+). On the 5.9 engine the heater is on the passenger side of the engine near the oil filter. Take off the plastic cap by unscrewing it, then put the appropriate end in and screw it down. THen just route the wire up to the bumper and tie it off a few places and your done.

I have not got it yet so not exactly sure but was told that was it and it was $16 at a Cummins Dealer.

 

Think I need it in Florida???, it does drop into the 30's at least a few times a year

 

I also have the 2007 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel. The pig tail that I purchased had little plastic snaps that went right into the holes located on the frame. I just routed it along the frame to the front of the truck.

 

Or you could totally re-route the plug like demon and I did ...
