Default Decisions...

This weekend Im going to check out getting a new diesel...Im curious if anyone has ever owned a Duramax? I would like to buy a quad cab or mega cab ram with a manual, but if the price was right who knows...I know this is probably a stupid question, but from the information that ive recieved the cummins and duramax are fairly equal.. Is this true? Any info would be appreciated. Im really not wanting to make a 20k+ mistake.

the d-max is a good engine. . .however it does have it's limitations and is not as indestructable as the cummins. . .the only thing GM has going for those trucks is the tranny.

The early Duramax had a terrible problem with injectors and extended the warranty on those motors (around 2000-01). I'm not sure if they ever got that fixed. The 2001 I hadthrew a rod at 120,000 and wasn't even under load! That's when I bought my CTD.

I know the Cummins is a good engine as my dad has one in his motor home. Its a 38 foot and pulls a 24 foot enclosed trailer with car and still manages 9 mpg.. Comes in really handy on the long hauls to the drag race track. Is there any specific year that is particularly better then the rest? Im looking for something around 03 or newer with less they 100k miles and with a manual and in quad cab or mega cab.

I've heard that the Duramax is challenged in the engine cooling department. I know one guy that completely cooked his engine because it couldn't get enough coolant flow, and it was still a stock set up.

The Max is a fast son of a gun, but all my haulin buddies are having trouble with them overheating under a load. I was grossing 25,600lbs wednesday morning on a 125 mile trip and the ole Cummins stayed on the cool side with the cruise on 68 and the air blowing COLD. If your gonna work it the CTD is the way to go. Good Luck!! ( I could've run harder but my trailer tires were heating up)[:@]
