Not Ready Yet?
welcome to DF... We will need pictures of course, feel free to post in the Diesel RollCall thread tacked to the top of the forum. take time to fill out your signature section under "my profile" linked @ the top of the page and include specs on your truck... 2wd, 4wd, 6sp, auto etc...
as far as your question goes... go for it... be careful of your tranny though, it can only handle so much.

Before you get the SC. Get guages first and drive stock for a couple of months so you know what your truck is doing. Just remember whenever you mod your truck there is always something else most likely that needs to be address w/ that particular mod.
For guages atleast get a pyro and boost. If your not going to upgrade your tranny then get a tranny guage also to monitor your temps. Even though SC say they test on stock trucks. You can damage your tranny overtime if you keep mashing the peddle w/extra hp over stock. Believe me you will for the first few times. Being your first programmer. You can also put a CAI or a good drop in filter along w/ a free flowing muffler. You need your truck to beathe and lower you EGT. There is also your CP3 pump that may have difficultsupplying fuel. May not be a problen w/ a mild programmer, but SC I believe gives 130 hp in performance (felt less when I had a SC) so you may down the road might be upgrading to a aux. lift pump.
I just want to educate new people when they start putting mods on their trucks because I see alot of times people just get a programmer/tuner on w/ nothing else and take out their engine or tranny. Not to scare you. You will have fun w/ the SC, but there are consequences if not done right or something is neglected.

It's never to early for mods.
Start out w/ a CAI or change the exhaust.
Then go after the programmer or module
U want
Oh don't forget the gauges as mentioned above by firemansdodge

If you are disciplined enough to keep your foot out of it the superchip or other programmer should be great. I am getting one and am very excited. I do not have guages yet, I had a hemi with a sc and it did a world of difference but I got my lead foot out of the way with that truck.

I'm not interested in hot-rodding the truck. I'm was getting the tuner to improve performance while towing a 10k RV. I might change my mind, though, when I feel the added power!
By the way, is a tranny temp monitor necessary for a 6 speed?

No the tranny temp guagenot necessary for a manuel. Just remember it doesn't take hot rodding to mess something up. Towing can be just as bad if your not paying attention. Just make sure to back out if EGT get to high going up a long grade (1250-1350 max) when sustaining constently.
Something no one else said, you are playing Russian Roulet with your warranty if you get a programmer. They can detect those things in your computer if anything major breaks, they could void your warranty.
