dpf cost about $1500 (in the otr world) these engines are built to have one. They won't run without them. Only need to worry about it if you buy the 6.7l

melt a piston? I dunno if a single injector dumping would be enough to raise egt's to melt that piston. but what do i know. I'm just thinking if a single injector failure can ruin a piston then these engines aint too tuff.
ask triton

they say on of the rings came off and it was blocking the fuel inlet.
Didn't we have this happen to someone else a couple of months ago and I questioned him about the "rings"comming off? What was the final outcome of that discussion ... I can't remember.

yup. . .if you had an injector to hang open you would be dumping raw fuel into the cylinder. when the heat builds up on the top of those pistons to a point the spray becomes a blow torch.

Piston then expands from heat faster than the cylinder walls the the piston starts to hang up causing major scoring or even worse, a thrown rod.

I see now. I was just thinking that one leaky injector woudln't be that huge of an issue but nowthat you explain it I see. thanx for the knowledge guys.
