Default RE: Dyno proof? Questions about CAI and Exhaust

So if I have my modified exhaust and I put a CAI like AFE or S&B I am going to lose mpg & power?

No power loss/hp or mpg. You will see your egt more in check along w/ anaftermarket muffler than a stock system. AFE ismore of thepopular systems. I have not really heard a bad thing about them. You also will notice alittle better throttle response than a stock setup.

that depends on how you have it modded... I lost mileage with the exhaust setup with just the magnaflow, no cat & no aero... lost about 1 mpg. turbo spooled hella quick though. when I added the aero where the cat was, I got that mpg back plus the turbo still spooled much better than the stock airbox. throttle response was awesome as well.

oh so you were running the aero AND the magnaflow, I guess I misread and thought you swapped the magnaflow out and put in the aero.

yes... originally I went from the stock exhaust setup to a deleted cat & 30" magnaflow. lost low end, gained top end, lost mpg egt's dropped. Then added the aero where the cat was an gained the mpg back and the egt's went up a little bit but still lower than stock.

I went straight from stock to no cat and a flowpro muffler. I gained low end I think and lost a little highend but its ok because I didn't need to do 100 + down the highway

What does the Aeroactually do? Does it replace the catback? Use it w/ conjunction of the muffler? When I put my turbo back exhuast on. I didn't notice a difference in power or mpg when I took the catback off.

it depends on your intake... if you have the stock box in place then the effects are minimized because you cant draw in the airflow... toss in a CAI kit & there will be a difference. toss in a pro guard 7 filter with the AFE stage 2 kit and you'll see a big difference... the PG7 filter has a 6" flange and is a 7 or 8" x 9 filter.

Basically it boils down to the more you suck the more you gotta blow(did I just say that outloud?). Maybe I will try to get something done before my trip coming up though, cause it sounds like the decrease in egt's might be worth a little expense, especially since we are getting ready to take a trip towing a 5th wheel to nevada, idaho, oregon and washington.
back to the drawing board....
