Default RE: CTD 5.9 -vs- 6.7, 3.73 or 4.10 ?

To all that replied to my post,, THANKS...

Today I traded my 06 2500 Power Wagon for an 07 3500 Laramie with 5.9, 4speed-auto w/3.73 gears. Why becausemy Power Wagonwould not tow a fifth wheel down the HWY at 70 MPH without down shifting for every little bump in the road. Not to mention the 4.56 gears made for a high RPM poor gas mileage situation.

My decision to go with the 5.9 -vs- the 6.7was not so much that I was swayed by any onereply. But mostly because my local dealer was offering a substantial discount on thefew 5.9's left on the lot. And they also offered me a fair price for my trade according to KBB. After doing much checking around I have decided I can't go to far wrong with the 5.9. I also feel the problems if any with the 6.7 will not be long lived. If I could have got the same discount on one my decision would have been much more difficult. My research does show that there are currently many more after market parts available for the 5.9. That will be short lived I'm sure...

Cheers!!

I've got 3.55 and the NV5600 and have never needed more power. Pulling a car it would accelerate at will climbing the mountain passes of CO in 6th. Usually took about 12 psi to hold 80 climbing the hills.

But is a 4.10 a good idea if you plan on going up in tire size? I plan on at least doing a leveling kit with 33's, and may even go for the 6-inch lift and 37s look. Or does this really not matter with a diesel? Can you compensate with programming?

I have the 6.7 with the 4.10 and the 6 speed auto. It runs the same rpms as my 5.9 3.73 4spd auto used to plus alot smoother and quieter.
